What’s Cooking?

Let us finally move inside to some before and afters – starting with the kitchen because I’m pants shitting excited about the fact we just purchased our new kitchen cabinets!  I have been patiently awaiting this day since I moved in and it has been more anticipated than other major events such as the adoption of our beloved pooch Belle and getting engaged.  Don’t judge, this girl just really likes kitchens, I like looking at them, I like eating in them and I like cooking in them – and this is what I’ve been working with for well over a year.

Okay, okay that’s an exaggeration, it hasn’t been this bad the whole time.  Here’s what we started with –

It’s hard to put a finger on what was demolished first, but I recall the first order of business was removing the wall on the right side of the fridge (can’t really see in the above pictures) and move the fridge to the opposite side of the kitchen.  On the left side of the kitchen we cut the counter off where it extends into the laundry room and built a door separating the two rooms.   As the walls came down the wiring began as well.

In the picture above a couple other things happened – new window, sink, disposal and refrigerator.  Coming home to your fridge urinating all over the floor is a fun and pricey Tuesday evening expense.

After the wiring was complete (it’s still up for debate whether our house will spark into a raging inferno) we covered up the evidence wiring job and moved on to drywall.  A monstrous shout out to Travis Carlson for all the help!

Floors went in next.

Which brings us to today.  Once we finished the walls we got so tired of putting up and taking down upper cabinets we burned them in the back yard and opted for the open, airy/keep you food and dishes on plastic Home Depot shelving in the laundry room look.  It’s really chic.  All the Sarah Richardsons’ of the world are doing it.

Now I just have to wait a mere 3 weeks for the cabinets to be delivered.  In the meantime you can find me scouring the local granite and tile shops for a counter and backslash.  Call me if you want to join us for taco night!!

About The Neuzel Project

Neuzel is the combination of Neuman and Benzel. Now that Casey and I have been married for 3 years, we could probably be the Neuman Project, but I still love the time we were the Neuzels so it will remain.

Appreciate your comments about how important a kitchen is to you. Hmm, wonder if that is an hereditary triat? Granite shopping soon?
